Alaula | UX Case Study
Alaula is a web-based platform that verifies medical bills and negotiates on behalf of users, reducing stress and financial burdens.
The Problem
Healthcare billing is notoriously complex and often overwhelming. With frequent billing errors, complicated insurance terms, and high costs, many users feel lost navigating their medical bills. Alaula was created to alleviate this burden by offering a digital assistant that verifies medical bills and negotiates with healthcare providers to reduce costs.
The Challenge
To design a platform that simplified this intricate process, guiding users through bill submission, verification, and negotiation, while maintaining trust and transparency.
Research and Discovery
To understand the pain points, we conducted user interviews with people who had recently received medical bills, alongside surveys targeting a broader audience. We also collaborated with medical professionals and billing experts to understand the intricacies of medical billing.
Site Map
When designing the site map, our goal was to create a structure that simplified the complexity of medical bill verification and negotiation. We started by outlining the core functionalities users needed: onboarding, bill submission, verification tracking, and negotiation results. From there, we organized these functions into clear categories that users could navigate effortlessly.
Starting the Design
Embarking on the design phase, we initiated with the creation of a low-fidelity prototype for quick testing and iteration. Simultaneously, we developed a style guide to maintain visual consistency and elevate the brand's premium image throughout the Alaula platform. This dual approach marked a crucial step in translating ideas into effective design solutions.
Lo-fi Mockups
In our early design phase, we focused on creating low-fidelity mockups for the Alaula platform with a specific emphasis on structuring the navigation. We began by outlining sections of content for each page, knowing that a deeper dive into these would come later in the design process.
Style Guide
The style guide played a pivotal role in maintaining visual consistency across the Alaula platform. By establishing clear rules for style usage, this guide ensured a cohesive and unified look and feel throughout the site, aligning with the brand's identity and simplifying the design process for enhanced user experiences.
Hi-fidelity Prototype
After refining the structure from our lo-fi mockups, we moved to the hi-fidelity prototype to bring Alaula’s interface to life. The focus was on delivering a polished, visually appealing experience while maintaining the intuitive simplicity users appreciated.
